Hartington looks for investors to create a laboratory (Part II)

Levdanski explains that the company’s goal, which has its corporate headquarters in Barcelona’s Torre Mapfre, is to find shareholders to drive the new laboratory forward, as “it is not possible to obtain the necessary funds from our own resources”. The investors, he says, would put up 30% of the required investment in exchange for a stake in the company’s equity. Hartington is also negotiating with Invest in Catalonia, run by the Catalan Regional Government’s agency Acc1Ó, and the Ministry of Industry for support for training programmes.

The company plans to have the laboratory operating within two years. It would create 35 jobs, most of them requiring highly skilled professionals in biology and pharmaceutics.

Levdanski says that Catalonia was chosen thirteen years ago for starting the company - and also for the new laboratory – because of the high quality of life and the advantages offered by the concentration of pharmaceutical companies in the region. Apart from starting the laboratory from scratch, the company is also open to buying an existing laboratory in Barcelona or the surrounding area, Levdanski explains.

Hartington currently has a workforce of 50 employees, of which 15 work in the Barcelona offices. Most of the employees are in Georgia, where the company has its current laboratory and a production plant. Ramón López Bertrán, appointed this year as the group’s medical director, explains that Georgia is a country that is rich in medicinal plants and also stresses that the company applies sustainable agricultural practices in its activities.
